St. Luke’s Block Party

On October 1, 2024, we invited the whole community to join us for National Night Out in the Pumpkin Patch for a Block Party. We a wonderful turn out, and cooked up hot dogs for everyone, snacks, and served lots of beverages to cool everyone off after walking through the patch, playing with wagons, and taking a turn in the bouncy house. Of course, there were many repeat “bouncers” throughout the party!

We also had face painting, kid’s crafts, a friendship bracelet making booth, and a drawing for special prizes. We had a great time getting to know lots of new faces and welcome old friends, and we hope to see you all again for Block Party 2025!

Blessing of the Pets

October 12, 2024, brought the debut of a new event to our Pumpkin Patch, the “Blessing of the Pets” day. This was such a fun gathering of families and their furry companions! Rev. Andy Goff of St. Luke’s UMC and Rev. Wybra Price of Broadmoor UMC said a blessing for all God’s creatures, then prayed a blessing for each pet in attendance, and some who could not be there in person. Attendees whose pets had gone over the rainbow bridge or had become lost brought their beloved pets’ collars and toys to have the pastors say a prayer for these beloved animals.

Ninna’s Road-to-Rescue also partnered with us for this event, bringing out several dogs available for adoption so everyone could meet them and find out more about how to fill out an application to adopt a fur baby waiting for their forever home at Ninna’s.

Streetcar Snowballs was also here, serving up New Orleans-style shaved ice treats and pup cups for all four-legged friends. So many families found their perfect pumpkins with their pets assisting in the search. So many memories were made, and amazing photos captured this truly special day. This was such a fun event, and we will definitely be having it again this year!

Low Key Live!

On October 18, 2025, we moved our Friday night recovery service, “Low Key” outside in the patch. Hamburgers and hotdogs were served, Raising Cane’s donated some of their famous lemonade and sweet tea, and everyone brought desserts. We filled our plates and enjoyed the absolutely perfect weather as we gathered in the patch. The Lifeshare Blood donation bus was also there, and we helped them reach their donor goal. But the real attraction was our musical guests for the evening, “The Lovers”! After we ate, we pulled up folding chairs to listen to the vocals and guitar of Amanda June and Cole Vosbury (of “The Voice” fame) as the sun set on a beautiful evening. Our spirits were lifted by the encouraging words of the step speaker, and the spiritual power of experiencing the live music together.

Trunk-or-Treat

Trunk-or-Treat is our annual safe, family friendly Halloween trick-or-treating experience in the St. Luke’s UMC parking lot. Church members each decorate their vehicles with a different theme, and each has own candy station, prizes, or games. Kids, parents, and pets all turn out in costume to make their rounds to each location and gather the treats and prizes there. There’s also a “spooky bus” for our braver trick-or-treaters! This event has a HUGE turnout because we welcome all members of our community to join our St. Luke’s UMC family and sister church Broadmoor UMC in this candy-filled fun. We can’t wait to see all the folks we met and their amazing costumes again this year!
