THE ST. LUKE'S EXPERIENCE

Love, not judgement, is found here.

We are so glad you stopped by!  In this hectic world, we hope you will linger long enough to let your spirit breathe and to find a connection to the Holy. At St. Luke’s, you will make friends with others who are seeking to love God, their neighbors, and themselves as we discover what it means to follow in the way of Jesus.  As we seek God together, we open our hearts to the guiding Holy Spirit and become the “hands and feet” of Jesus to the surrounding community. Located on this busy corner of Youree Drive and Sand Beach Boulevard, it is our hope that St. Luke’s will provide a welcoming place of peace, an oasis of hope, and an opportunity to be transformed by the grace of God, so that we may carry that grace and love into the world.

THE COMMUNITY

All are welcome.

St. Luke’s United Methodist Church was founded in 1960 on what used to be the growing southern edge of Shreveport.  For 35 years we have been known for our Pumpkin Patch in October, which sells pumpkins raised by our friends in the Navajo nation in Arizona and uses ALL profits to support a multitude of local community missions and outreach programs.  That’s right- we give it ALL away! To date, the St. Luke’s Pumpkin Patch has raised over a quarter million dollars for local charities and non-profits.

St. Luke’s has a strong connection to the recovery community, hosting numerous recovery group meetings each week, where people find hope and healing through the 12-step community.  Every Friday night, members of the recovery community meet for a special type of recovery meeting- Low Key, which we call “a service of recovery.” Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for refreshments, and the music begins at 6:00 p.m., featuring a different band from the local area each week. Some of the most talented musicians in the area perform each week, and each week there is also a speaker who gives a short talk on their experience with one of the steps. Low Key is an open meeting, welcoming anyone who wants to soak up the healing atmosphere, good tunes, and great fellowship, not just members of the recovery community.

We are committed to a shared life of worship, prayer, and study. All people from all walks of life are welcome, regardless of race, socio-economic status, or background.  We hope you will join us for worship. Come walk our labyrinth and enjoy our prayer garden. Find a Sunday School group to join and participate in our study and fellowship groups, or if there’s need, find one of the weekly 12-step groups to help you.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
— Matthew 11: 28-30
